Lucy
is a part-Pekinese, part Wheaten Terrier. Oldest of the three and terribly territorial.
She rules the roost and puts terror into the hearts of would-be evil-doers (such as
visiting dogs, people, and everyone who lives in the house. She considers her main job to
be looking after Barkley, who arrived as a six-week-old pup when she was about 18 months
old. |
Barkley is 100% Beagle and is a big, gentle goof. His philosophy
of life is that anyone with four legs is to be played with and anyone with two is likely
to provide a cuddle. Lets himself be rolled over by smaller dogs and definitely takes
orders from Lucy. He's Candy's main playmate and Scamp's main reason for sharpening his
claws. |

Scamp is...well, he's a scamp who has declared the top floor of our house
as a dog-free zone and gets about three times his normal size to enforce the rules. He
mostly ignores the two older dogs (and they have scars to prove it), but is contending
with Candy to see who eats whom! Both Scamp and Princess are indoor cats, but with the
three dogs loose around the house, both get more than enough exercise. Scamp's favourite
place is on the back of my chair (when I'm in it). |
When Princess came to us (like Scamp, rescued from the Toronto
Humane Society), she was already neutered and de-clawed. Although we do believe in
neutering our pets, we don't agree with de-clawing cats. Nevertheless, she defends herself
well against all comers (including Scamp). They're both the same age (about 16 months in
March '99) although they were acquired a few months apart. |
